With the Sánchez-Mkhitaryan swap deal, the
players swap their home city for the others. So we ask away from football in
terms of living in Manchester or London, who has the best deal?
Manchester United and Arsenal have
traded both of the attacking players, The Chile forward has signed a
four-and-a-half-year contract at Old Trafford worth a reported £350,000 a week
plus image rights and performance bonuses, while Mkhitaryan is now contracted
to Arsenal until 2021 having left United only eighteen months after joining
from Borussia Dortmund for £27m.
With Mourinho and Wenger happy
with their transfer business, we ask will Sánchez
Mkhitaryan be happy off the pitch?
Cost of
Living?
The cost of living isn't something that the top
footballers have to worry about usually, but based on a cost of living comparison,
it is 37% cheaper to live in Manchester in 2018 compared to living in London.
So if you add that to Sánchez's reported increase in wages, he will be laughing
all the way to the bank on his deal. But as mentioned earlier he probably isn't
too concerned about that :-)
Climate
The climate in Manchester is well documented and
situated in a valley its always going to be wet. We believe in 2017 the average
temperature difference was 2°C colder in Manchester compared to London
Population
Density
In terms of population density London has more
people per km² with 5,518 compared to Manchester's 4,349. So if you like a
bit more space, Manchester is probably the victor in this battle
Property
Prices
Property prices in London are more than double of
property prices in Manchester. The average rent for a city centre apartment in
London reaching approximately £1,700 per month compared to £700 in Manchester.
Again probably not something that these two players have to worry about too
much, but important to note lol.
Hospitality
I am a little biased as I live and work around
Manchester and I have seen it
for myself having walked the length of Manchester many times. A city which has
everything (except a beach, as Ian Brown famously noted), yet can still be
easily traversed on foot is a joyous thing. Once the city’s Achilles heel
– a dearth of fine dining - is no longer an issue, with a host of top chefs
like Simon Rogan opening award-winning restaurants.
Shopping issues highlighted
famously by Victoria Beckham when David Beckham was a Manchester United player
have been much improved, but like with fine dining it still lags behind London
in certain areas.
In conclusion, as biases as it
maybe, we believe both players have made a good move career wise, but in terms
of the city, there is only one winner - Manchester
- The Water does not taste of soap
- Boris Johnson isn't our mayor
- You can afford a place to live
- Friendlier
- Surrounded by countryside
- Cleaner air
- And lastly Manchester has Gravy :-)
So with that all being said - Good luck to both
Sánchez and Mkhitaryan we hope you both enjoy life in your new surroundings.
